Easy Come... (Almost) Easy Go

What is difference a day makes. Last week we had a ice storm...shut down the town for 2 days! Ice stayed on the rooftops and in shady places for a few days. But eventually things have gone back to normal. Although we do have a spot of ice in the roof creases. My niece goes to college in Atlanta and went back Sunday before the weather went bad. She was iced in for a week! In some areas north of the city the roads were still a problem for drivers yesterday...

But now the rain has come and things are back to normal everywhere! Good thing we were not in Atlanta...what a difference 90 miles makes! Here is a view out the window:

Ice Ice Baby!

Our "Winter Event" has happened! We woke up to what looked like snow with sleet falling! The weather people say that this is ice not snow... Looks like snow to me but crunchy when you step on it. Here is what it looks like!

Skippy has been having a fun time! Showed up this am ready to frolic! He is our one man snow/ice removal crew! Although he did get a little distracted!!

There ice everywhere! I can't even get into the backyard.

The gate latch is frozen with ice and the back door from the porch is too!

They say that it is supposed to melt a bit and then refreeze. But the good news is that it's going to be 45 degrees tomorrow! So before it is gone...enjoy some of my pics!

Just heard from LB..soome of my pics are going to be featured on the weather segment on KWWL in Waterloo, IA! Thanks bro!!

Meanwhile I'll hum some more Vanilla Ice...Word to yo mother!

A bird's nest waiting for Spring!

It's Melting.....

You know what they say...Here Today, Gone Tomorrow! That is so true about snow in the Deep South! It is almost gone! It has been a little windy today and that has had the snow melting and falling out of the pine trees! You would have thought there were a bunch of teenage boys in the back yard with all the thumping I kept hearing! But there was no giggles or chuckles...just falling clumps of snow. Our backyard is full of pine trees. I think this area was a pine tree forest at one time. The trees are planted in straight little lines!

I measured the snow around 8:00 last night and this is what I got.

Now keep in mind it was still snowing when I took this picture. So we could have gotten more...I am calling our official total 3"! Sweet Mama wanted me to send some pics to LB in Iowa. He is the Weekend Anchor of his local news. So I sent them and they were put on the weatherman's blog on the station's website. Kinda cool and yet kinda pitiful... They get a lot more snow that we do...every year! Just a El Nino event for us! I basically sent him the same ones I posted yesterday plus this one.

This is as close to the snow as Sweet Mama got!
Here's a few from today!

Plus we got a little bit of ice!

And now we get ready for SPRING! The Cherry Tree is getting ready...are you?

Waiting for SNOW!!

Rumor has it that we in Middle Georgia are in store for a major snow storm... 2-4 inches! The town is just a buzzing! We got snow last year on March 1 (check out the major accumulation above!) Well, maybe it was just a dusting... What you don't see is that to the left of the mailbox our yard is full of pine trees...and there is no snow there at all. This is the backyard...yes there are pine trees to the left.

The prediction is for about 12 hours of snow...9:00am to 9:00pm. So we wait....hoping it gets here and doesn't disappear as if it was a dream...

And the Answer is...

NO SNOW! We got nothing...
except for a touch of sleet and, if there was a flake or two, I didn't see it. But I'm not really surprised. If it is going to snow it usually happens in February or March. So I can still hope to see it later in the year.

I went with Skippy, Red and Sweet Mama on the last two school spring breaks...First to The Mall of America in Minnesota and last year to The Biltmore House in Asheville NC. Both times we saw snow. The tree was outside of our hotel in Minneapolis, the other is the parking lot in Asheville.

This year Skippy and I are trying to pick a snow destination for this year...Any suggestions?

Snow Day?? Maybe!

Yes there is a "chance of a possibility" of SNOW here in Middle Georgia! We are all excited! This kind of thing doesn't happen very often here. We did have an afternoon of snow last March. It snowed for a few hours and melted fast...that is the way it goes around here. But tonight we has a 60% chance of "winter precipitation"...(I'm guessing that probably sleet). The grocery stores are selling out like we are going to have a blizzard! I will keep you posted tomorrow with the details!
The is the massive snow we had last year...can we top this tonight? Maybe...
